Children's Ministry

Children are a very blessed and important part of our faith community. Our hope is to help children develop a relationship with God through Jesus Christ by sharing the stories of the Bible and actively engaging our children in worship and discipleship.

Every week we have the privilege to CONNECT with the children and families at St. Stephen UMC. We can all take part. It’s all about being PRESENT. Everybody needs someone who is predictable in their life:

  • Toddlers need someone who doesn’t look like a stranger
  • Elementary schoolers need someone who remembers the name of their goldfish
  • Middle schoolers need someone who is up-to-date on their weekly-sometimes daily-dramas
  • High schoolers need someone who knows their personal struggles and is committed to walking through it with them

What are you doing this week to CONNECT & BE PRESENT?

Special Events for Children

Nursery Care Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the Nursery?

The Nursery is located in the Education Building on the west side of the main building, in the second room on the right.

How early can I drop my child off before service, or event?

Our nursery staff opens the doors 10 minutes prior to Sunday School, worship services, and other events. You are more than welcome to come in and help your child get acclimated if need be.

What is the age limit for the children to stay in the nursery?

The staff will welcome all children up through age 5 or if they are in Kindergarten. First graders are occasionally permitted on a case-by-case basis.

What if my child is potty training?

We make every effort to support the potty training process for your child. We do ask, however, that your child continue to wear a ‘pull-up’ until they are completely potty trained. It is very helpful for you to take your child to the bathroom when you arrive to drop them off.

What if my child is sick?

For the protection of your child and other children, please do not bring your child to the Nursery when they are showing an signs of illness within the last 24 hours. Illness symptoms include: fever, pinkeye, vomiting, diarrhea, croup, colds, unidentified or contagious rashes, cloudy or green runny noses, persistent cough, and childhood diseases (scarlet fever, German measles, mumps, chicken pox, strep throat, flu). If your child becomes ill or injured during the service we will determine whether it is necessary to contact you immediately or wait until you arrive. For minor accidents you will be given a detailed explanation when you pick up your child.

What happens if my child needs me while I’ m in service?

When you check your child in at the nursery, we will ask you for your cell phone number, and where you will be located in the church during your child’s stay. This way, we can send you a text, or come and find you if you are needed.

What should I bring?

We will provide a healthy snack, such as graham crackers, Goldfish or Cheerios. However, you are welcome to bring anything that your child needs. If applicable, please bring extra diapers, wipes, and complete change of clothing for oops times.

Who is the staff at the nursery?

There are two paid nursery attendants staffed at all services, and major events. All nursery staff complete annual MinistrySafe Training and background checks.

Blaze Youth Group

The youth ministry at St. Stephen’s has a new name which is Blaze Youth Ministry. Blaze is simply a symbol that represents that we are youth on fire for Christ and eager to share our passion about the Gospel to other people! We currently offer Sunday school classes for grades 6th-12th from 9:30am to 10:30am in the Education Building.

"Youth on Fire for Christ”

Jeremiah 20:9
“But if I say, “I will not mention his word
or speak anymore in his name,”
his word is in my heart like a fire,
a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in;
indeed, I cannot.”

Sunday School : Sunday mornings, CORE ( Connect, Own, Reveal, Empower) is a resource designed to help teenagers discover their value and worth as God's children and empower them to reach their potential in faithfully following Christ in the context of relationships. This comes with an understanding of one's true identity in Christ and living from an integrated sense of self with confidence, strength, and with the purpose of positively influencing others.

Youth Group  Sunday Evenings are using the curriculum "Echo The Story" Times: 5:00pm-7:00pm

Our church supports the students of Wimbish Elementary through volunteering in the school library. We also hold a school supply drive in the fall, a coat drive in the winter, and donate T-Shirts for their 6th Grade Cluster Meet. Each year we donate books to the 1st grade class and assist the children with selecting books to give their friends and their Christmas party.

This year SSUMC has collected a TRUCK LOAD of school supplies!!! We would like to thank everyone who donated school supplies for Wimbish Elementary School. This year we collected enough school supplies to fill the back of a pickup truck! These school supplies will be handed out to children that are unable to purchase school supplies.
